Resistance Training

"We all wish our paths could be easy and painless, but we often forget a fundamental principle. If you ask a personal trainer to make you strong, she won’t have you sit on the couch. She won’t make you “comfortable”. That trainer will add more weight and more difficulty. We understand this principle in the physical world; we understand that it is actually through discomfort that we grow. Strength comes from lifting and endurance is born from challenge. In the physical world, the process itself is called “resistance training”. And so here we are in the midst of our journey back Home. 

God is our Trainer and life is our gym. Theodore Roosevelt once said: “It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again... who at the best, knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly.”"

3 Reasons why we embarked The Quranic Project

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم 

A group of us guys were randomly chatting on how articles such "Date a Girl who Travels", "6 Dates for Introverts To Take Themselves On", and "50 Songs From The 80s That Will Put You In a Good Mood" have the ability to influence readers by defining what's cool and what's not. A "Share" shows support for what's being written and a "Like" shows that their peers too support what's being written. The view counts increase exponentially and overtime, we subconsciously grow up wanting to travel to Europe or go on dates simply because friends and friends of friends share the same views. The power of social media is pretty interesting, and to certain extent, scary too.

Someone should write a list called "25 Reasons Why You Must Follow Allah's Orders", suggested one.

Building on, another proposed, "Let's try to compile a different kind of lists. For a start, let us each find lists that exist within the Quran. We could meet up monthly and share the different lists that we've managed to find. Like if you're in!"

"3 reasons Why We Embarked on The Quranic Project"


1. To add a different dimension to regular chats and conversations




Conversations often revolve around updates on school, work, the poor form of Manchester United and the ideal marriage. While fun, it does get boring after a while. Engaging on this project adds another topic for sharing and discussion!


2. To find and share with our friends the many lists that exist in the Quran as well as the Hadith


Lists are making their rounds on Facebook every other day so add something similar yet different to the mix! So for a start, the group of us decided to embark on this project to find lists that exist in the Quran. As a teaser, there's one is Surah Al-Mu'Minuun (The Believers) - a list of seven characters of a successful believer! But that's for a separate post! 

3. To encourage others to embark on little projects that revolve around the Quran and Hadith with family and friends




Monopoly, Snap, Uno, Jenga, Snake and Ladders, Hungry Hippos. We grew up playing and loving these games with our family and friends. What if we could also include into the mix activities that revolve around the Quran and Hadith? 

For example, with young children, one could play "Count the number of the letter Aleef in Surah Al-Fatihah". With older kids, one could play "Find the number of Madd Leen or Madd Badal in Surah An-Naba" or "Name the Surah where one can find the stories of Prophet Joseph." For bonus points, one could attempt to name the verses. You get the idea!
